Basis is located in the area of the Youth Village “Hadassa Neurim”, over the Beit Yanai cliff. In addition to the School, “Hadassa Neurim” hosts artist and professional workshops as well as the largest metal sculpture foundry in Israel. The proximity to all these grants the students at Basis the opportunity to learn methods and work processes in the most direct and professional manner.
Most of the courses take place at the central building adjacent to the foundry. This building houses the classrooms, the sculpture work’s central workshop, the School’s Gallery, the library and the computers’ room.
Additional workshops are scattered through the “Hadassa Neurim” area for School’s students’ use: the stone workshop, wood workshop , the auxiliary workshop for miscellaneous endeavors such as large scale works, Styrofoam work, etc and the metal workshop.
A number of Basis instructors’ and alumni’ workshops are also located in the workshops area. Such constellation turns the School into a community in the broad sense, one characterized by a connectedness which does not end with the culmination of studies. The forging of close relationships between students, alumni and instructors working side by side constitute a reciprocal fertilizing experience.
An additional facility serves as dormitories for the Intensive Sculpture Program students throughout the study months. Dwelling on the premises affords the students maximal utilization of the academic year by making use of the facilities at any time, all day long, including weekends. The close connection forged between the students, compounded by the non-competitive character of studies at Basis, is in itself a special life experience, one which foments and encourages emotional openness.
The village’s generous expanse makes it possible for Basis students to set up graduation projects, and thus acquire experience in the outdoor sculpture field from the process’ inception to its completion .A number of Basis alumni’s works are already scattered in the “Hadassa Neurim” area, and other works await placement.
