About Basis Gallery
Basis Gallery is located above the school's classrooms and workshops, near the auditorium. As a layer in an active academic space and as an integral part of a multidisciplinary cultural center, the gallery reflects the contents and practices of both the ongoing studies and the cultural events and seminars taking place in Basis. In collaboration with the school's faculty, the gallery offers a platform for the students' work, which will be displayed in it as well as in other spaces of the school, as well as an ideational and practical lab for multifarious projects from different disciplines. Hence, the students are invited to experience the gallery as an organic part of the school's theoretical and practical curriculum.
As an independent body free of commercial constraints and limitations, the gallery will strive to function as a home for an academic-critical discourse about current tendencies in the local field of contemporary art and their relation to social, economic and political aspects. Simultaneously, as part of a learning/research institution, the gallery will present cross-section exhibitions of Israeli art history that will examine the latter's impact on contemporary tendencies and practices.
Alongside its internal school activity, the gallery will often present one person and group exhibitions of active artists, artists who will be invited to work in the school's workshops, artists at the beginning of their career, and artists working on the margins of or excluded from the local established art scene.
The exhibitions will be accompanied by encounters with artists, master's classes and guided tours.
