Carmel Ilan was born in 1960 and was raised in Jerusalem. In 1984, she graduated from Shenkar School of Design in Tel Aviv, she was accepted thereafter for an apprenticeship in Parson’s School of Design in New York.

Between 87’ and 88’, upon returning to Israel Ilan worked as a freelance fashion designer in Israel and abroad, while teaching fashion design at Shenkar. She then returned to Shenkar in 95’ to teach design.

In 1989, Carmel established “Ikoo”,an innovative chain of children’s furniture that specialized in colored wood. The company had a fresh outlook, with the concept of bright colors and fun shapes for children’s furniture. In 1998, “Ikoo” was sold to “Beitili”, a large chain of furniture, which kept the concept and Carmel’s designs.
