Calligraphy
Instructor: Leo Ray
The course teaches the approach to two-dimensional work as a complex area and as a personal field of expression. Through the study of Calligraphy the student learns to know him/herself in an experiential and immediate manner, and learns to comprehend the relationship between the quantity and rhythm of his work and its quality and capability of expression. The course develops mastery of delicate hand movements, equilibrium between control and spontaneity, orientation in two dimensional space and surface, and the employment of plastic means for personal expression.
The calligraphic page is constructed as a self-standing creation which conducts a dialog with the letter, through experimenting with composition, proportions, angles, spacing, rhythm and nuance.
The course is shared by the Advanced Sculpture C students and Miscellaneous courses students.
