A historian of Jewish art and a researcher of the Jewish communities’ visual culture.
Curator and scientific advisor to ethno-historical exhibitions, such as "Light and Shadows: The Story of Iran and the Jews” and “Silk Threads: The Story of Bukharian Jewry” at the Diaspora Museum of the Jewish People.
For over twenty years she has served as a senior researcher and head of the Synagogues and Ritual Objects Section at the Center for Jewish Art, Hebrew University. In this capacity she headed more than 50 research expeditions to many countries, including Bukhara, Morocco, Tunisia, India and Ukraine. These delegations, for the first time, comprehensively documented materials crucial for the study of the art and material culture of Jewish communities.
A teacher and lecturer in Israel and abroad, she has been teaching at the Basis School of Art and Culture for the last eight years. Her classes include “On the Seam Line: Cultures and the Encounters between Them,” “Jewish Identity in Art,” and “The History of Israeli Sculpture.”
In addition, she teaches art history and Jewish art at the CAN New Artists' Collegium, as well as “Introduction to Jewish Art,” “Jewish Identity in Art” and “Jewish Sources for Art” at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Published over 30 articles on various topics, concentrating on Jewish cultural heritage, iconography and artistic legacy. Her research is conducted through an interdisciplinary approach that combines diverse cultural aspects, such as Jewish visual culture and the environment in which it was created, opinions and beliefs, texts and religious concepts, history and more.
