Curator: Shlomit Breuer
In her site-specific exhibition, “Donkey’s Ears,” Eden Bannet has installed sculptural hybrids constructing a sculptural mis-en-scène. Found by chance, most of the materials and instruments used for the actualization of these hybrids were unmistakably everyday utilitarian rather than artistic objects. To her usual images and treated or untreated objects, which she has been “hoarding” intuitively (rather than collecting or appropriating deliberately) and which sometime can be decipher only in retrospect, she added here allusions and references to the human body, as if it was also a found object, or “still life.” Investigating the anatomical, cultural and socio-political meanings of the human body, Bannet raises questions about human labor, leisure culture, the body in the private and public spheres, motion and relaxation, virtuosity, the body as a tool and an instrument, and body representations in art history in general and in the history of sculpture in particular.
